Quilting Gallery - 2012 Blog Hop

Have you been to the Quilting Gallery? I joined last year and have had so much fun! I did an Easter quilted basket swap, a Christmas quilt-a-long, and was a featured designer. If you have any interest at all in quilting, you have to check them out!

This month they are doing a blog hop and I am of course participating! The best part? Every blogger is having a give-away! That's right!! Last time I checked I think they were up to 150+ bloggers all with fabulous giveaways! Crazy goodness..

Since I first joined Quilting Gallery, my style has evolved and I'm so happy that I have now found my quilting voice. I'm now dedicated to art quilts in my profession, though I do create a number of  lap quilts for family and friends. In 2013 my blog will be focused on exploring silk paints, silk applique, and a multitude of collage art quilt themes. If you would like to see more of my work, jump on over to my gallery. I would love to stay connected with you, please feel free to sign up as a blog follower!

Now what is my giveaway that I've been mentioning? A random, lucky winner will receive a fat quarter pack of Lori Holt's Daisy Cottage for Riley Blake. I love this line and have used it with a number of projects for my girls.

What do you have to do? Just leave a comment on this post anytime by midnight (MST) Monday, December 17th.

I will post the winner's name on Tuesday the 18th and ship out the gift that week.
And yes this giveaway is open to International readers!
In your comment, please leave an email to contact you.

Best of luck and enjoy the rest of the blog hop!

Garden Party - Summer Sweetness Block

I am very excited to be a part of Sewhooked's first blog hop party. I can't wait to see all the paper piece pattern goodness! I love that the quilting community can be so supportive and encouraging of each other.

For the garden party, I designed a teacup full of roses. When I think of a garden party, I think of a fanciful day full of flowers, tea, and the ladies dearest in my life. You could make the roses all the same shade or vary them as I did. My husband think it looks a yummy cup of fruit sorbet, so you are welcome to interpret it that way as well. I think I will be using this block to create a Mother's Day gift - wouldn't it be sweet as a pillow or table mat for someone that deserves a cup of kindness?

I think it would be fun as large quilt too, with many different patterns for the teacups.

The PDF pattern is here. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to drop me a line. If you are new to foundation quilting, I have a tutorial here.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you love the block and can use it in your quilting. I can't wait to see the other blocks this month.

Sewing is My Happy Hour - Martini Pincushion Tutorial

I'm sorry that my regular schedule of posts have been absent. I had no idea what Quilt Market would be like and I totally got swept up into it! I have so much to tell you as well as all my scheduled posts. But all of that will have to wait for just a few days so that I can share with you a chocolate martini.. a martini pin cushion that is!

When Arrow Sewing Cabinets announced a pin cushion blog hop, I had to jump on. Want to follow the hop from the beginning? Jump on to their site for all the details.

Time spent sewing truly is my happy hour, so it is only fitting that I have a chocolate martini pincushion. You could change the color and make it just about any drink you like. Or if martinis aren't your thing, you can change it to look like a super yummy dessert.

What do you need?
*martini glass
*sheet of chocolate brown felt
*poly fill stuffing
*sheet of white felt
*Stickles glitter glue
*hot glue

How long do you need?
Less than an hour

What do you do?

Cut a circle out of the brown felt a few inches larger than the diameter of martini glass.
Squish the felt round into the glass until you form a cone and only have a single large fold.
Take the cone out and hand sew the fold crease.
Here it is stitched up on the crease.
Then you will remove the excess by cutting off the fold.
Add hot glue all around the inside on the top of the glass and gently place the brown cone back in. (Don't worry about the mess of the hot glue showing, that will be covered up later.)
Stuff the glass full of the poly-fill. You want it to be pretty dense.
Move the glass upside down on the white felt and draw a circle around it with about 1" larger diameter. You will want it to have an irregular border. This is supposed to look like a yummy creme top to the martini.
Cut out the white felt. Add a line of hot glue on the outside of the glass on the top of the rim and fold down the white felt. Once it is dry, add a line of Stickles glue glitter along the border.

Doesn't it look delicious? My pins go in like butter! I am really loving this cushion. These would be adorable as gifts for the new seamstress.

I hope you have enjoyed the blog hop! This is your last stop - I hope it was a sweet one. Hop on back to Arrow for more details on their giveaways.
