Results for WoW #13 and tutorial - Details for #14..

I love Easter candy.
I love Peeps.
For this challenge I decided to show my love
for the marshmallow goodness.

I didn't set out to go the route of kitsch,
but I ended there.
And really, I think it is appropriate for the neon sugar candy!

What do you need?
*2 packages of Peeps (you could probably use one,but um..some were eaten..)
*a heart foam wreath form (! buy 2, I have a fab-u-lous
Mom's Day wreath in the works.. and you'll need one!)
*ribbon
*a yard or so off BRIGHT tulle
*spray varnish (you don't really need this..but I did)
*hot glue

1.) Wrap your heart form with ribbon.
It doesn't need to be perfect at all, it's just to cover the majority of the foam.

^ See - not perfect all ...don't worry!

2.) Hot glue peeps on to form.
Keep in mind - it's HOT and you're working with marshmallows.
Yup.. I got burned a few times.
Feel free to use a different type of adhesive that is not hot..
Here is the back of the wreath when I was done.
I added another string of glue on the back between the Peeps and form.

That was going to be it.. but it looked really sad and bare.
I tried to glue some brown moss around them,
but that was way too natural for the Peeps.

It was like Rhett Butler in "Gone With the Wind" when he makes
Scarlett wear the garish red dress to Ashley's birthday party.
I had to go bright, I had to go loud.
I went with hot pink tulle

So on to step 3.)
Cut large hunks of pink tulle and hot glue behind the Peeps.

Ta-da!
Easter kitsch wreath at its best..
Now even the UPS guy knows my love for this gooey goodness...

**What about the varnish?
I sprayed the Peeps with it, but it didn't make them hard.
It just stunk really bad..
After one night outside on your door, they will be hard and perfect!

Be sure to check it out for a more classic look.
I love the tulle and glitter!

Results for WoW #11 and tutorial - Details for #12

Miss Isabelle turned 3 last week - and she had 5 parties.
Yup - 5.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that she is still talking about her birthday
and wants to know when she'll have another party.

For her family party I made chocolate dipped cheesecake pops.
I don't remember when Isa first had cheesecake, but what I do remember
is that she would NOT share it - any of it.
She absolutely adores it!

The cheesecake pops were pretty easy to make,
though the looked nothing like recipe pics.

I used a classic Cheesecake Factory cheesecake.
It was frozen overnight in our deep freeze.
This part is a little tricky.
I think my cheesecake was too cold, but it quickly got too warm.
Be ready to toss it back and forth from the freezer to making the pops.

Here are the yummy bites waiting to be dipped in delicious chocolate!
Be sure to push the candy sticks in deep and freeze the pops again for at least an hour.

And here they are post dipped and sprinkled with
yellow & pink sugar.
As you can see, they aren't perfectly shaped.
A lot of that issue was because the chocolate coating was a little chunky.
When you make these, be sure the chocolate is completely melted.
That part is a little tricky because the chocolate will be hot since it's melted
and then it starts to melt your cheesecake.
But if you let the chocolate get too cooled, then it forms chunky on the pops.

Either way...they taste fabulous!
And no one knows what they are "supposed" to look like..

Here is the birthday girl blowing out her candles.
I love that she isn't a traditional cake girl!

*****

I love the idea of placing this on the refrigerator.
My kiddos would stare at it all day!
A unique take on birthday bunting and oh so cute!!

How was your Fat Tuesday?
Our was filled with short naps, errands to the craft store,
and sneaking in some sewing time.. so nothing out of ordinary!

For this week's challenge I embraced my new favorite - free motion embroidery.
I embroidered an outline of a Mardi Gras mask
and went wild with stipple.
It is adorned with matching gemstones.
It looked very vanilla on the Kona cotton,
so I decided to free motion applique it to a yummy
piece of Michael Miller glitter fabric.

Be sure to take moment to check out her pic!
I may have to drive to her house today to try some cake :o)
And I love Sophie's sweet little puppet.
Kids love crafting and it is such a great way to
keep their minds & hands occupied for an hour.

When Juliette was born, my husband bought her a
beautiful bouquet of fall sunflowers;
each of our girls has a special flower in their honor.

It seemed very appropriate that for Jules' baptism party,
that theme be sunflowers.
They are symbolic of adoration.

My mother & I have been working all week
on all kinds of sunflower accents.
I will be doing a full article post party.

In the meantime, here is a peek at the sunflower fabric corsages
I making for all the women that are attending the ceremony.
I love fresh flowers, but I thought
this would be a sweet way to remember this special occasion.

I love the symbolism in this quilt.
It is a wonderful reminder that even when times are hard,
there is a higher path before us.

Craft Challenge #10

I'm so bummed that my photos are soo sub par this week,
but it's been a nut house here with kiddos sick again.
This was an amazing quick project and super cute!

I bought a cheapo small toddler t-shirt from Hobby Lobby.
Embroidered the "lucky charm" from Embroitique.
(If you have questions on how to embroider on a ready made item,
just holler and I will try to help!)

With the same green plaid that I used for the shamrock applique,
I cut a very long 2" strip and serged both edges.
I then ran the strip through my ruffler and
sewed it to the bottom of the shirt.

The top was looking awfully sad and commercial,
so I chopped off the arms and added more green plaid as a seam binding.
(The picture of Isa in the dress is before I added the seam binding)

Super quick, super cute
for my little "lucky" charm!

Loved the entries this week!

I would love a tutorial on how you are able to combine
these two art mediums!

I can't wait to see the finished project!
Such a great way to combine family history and art.

That looks like so much fun and it would be fabulous
to add to an ATC!

Wood, spray paint, and fabric?
You bet!

This challenge was a little daunting,
but then I had an light bulb flash earlier this week.

I had been seeing miniature beds used as infant photography props
for awhile now, but I wanted to do something that had more versatility.

I have a gazillion variations going in my mind,

So cute as a prop for chunky cherubs like Jules,
and still big enough for toddlers like Isa.
I can't wait to see in this shoot with a tiny newborn.
So fun!!

Craft Challenge #8
Lucky.
Could be a horseshoe, lucky charm.. you name it, you craft it!

The prize this week if we can (5) entries is

Iron Craft #6

This week on Iron Craft, we were challenged with
the theme winter.
Oh boy, here in Utah it is still very much winter.
And by the looks of the national weather report,
a lot of you are still seeing a ton of snow too.

I thought I would do another piece of specimen art.
There is something about it that calls to me.
Maybe it's because my dad is a scientist..
Maybe it's because I grew up near glass cases of delicate butterflies and beetles...
Maybe it's the OCD in me in that delights in the order of it all...
Not sure, but I think it is a fabulous mix of science and art.

And while I love specimen art, I do not delight in dead things.
My snowflakes are done in free motion embroidery.
My first attempt was drawn on with an invisible pen
and I embroidered over it.
Um yeah, my invisible pen was pretty darn visible.
Bummer.
So back to the drawing board.
I love the prim look and had fun trying to create snowflake images.
