Well caterpillars are..

I made Isabelle this dress inspired by Eric Carle's

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar".

Isn't it a genius idea to make clothes inspired by books??

Well, I'm not the genius behind it!

No Big Dill asked some fabulous bloggers to do just this thing

- create clothes inspired by children's books.

No.. I wasn't one of the bloggers chosen -

I'm a still a little fish in a HUGE pond.

BUT can I ever ignore a call for creativity

even when I'm not invited - heck no!

So I joined the party and this is also my entry for this week's WoW.

Eric Carle uses a collage technique for his work.

As I was searching for fabric, it occurred to me

that batiks have a very similar appearance.

When I saw the butterfly batik - I was in heaven!

Isabelle of course is crazy about this dress.

My lil' Punky Brewster loves BRIGHT colors, green, purple,

and mariposas.

My kiddos would go nuts over a dimensional butterfly on their baskets.

The buttons add a really fun textile touch to it too!

I will have to do that for sure next year.

I love Easter candy.

I love Peeps.

For this challenge I decided to show my love

for the marshmallow goodness.

I didn't set out to go the route of kitsch,

but I ended there.

And really, I think it is appropriate for the neon sugar candy!

What do you need?

*2 packages of Peeps (you could probably use one,but um..some were eaten..)

*a heart foam wreath form (! buy 2, I have a fab-u-lous

Mom's Day wreath in the works.. and you'll need one!)

*ribbon

*a yard or so off BRIGHT tulle

*spray varnish (you don't really need this..but I did)

*hot glue

1.) Wrap your heart form with ribbon.

It doesn't need to be perfect at all, it's just to cover the majority of the foam.

^ See - not perfect all ...don't worry!

2.) Hot glue peeps on to form.

Keep in mind - it's HOT and you're working with marshmallows.

Yup.. I got burned a few times.

Feel free to use a different type of adhesive that is not hot..

Here is the back of the wreath when I was done.

I added another string of glue on the back between the Peeps and form.

That was going to be it.. but it looked really sad and bare.

I tried to glue some brown moss around them,

but that was way too natural for the Peeps.

It was like Rhett Butler in "Gone With the Wind" when he makes

Scarlett wear the garish red dress to Ashley's birthday party.

I had to go bright, I had to go loud.

I went with hot pink tulle

So on to step 3.)

Cut large hunks of pink tulle and hot glue behind the Peeps.

Ta-da!

Easter kitsch wreath at its best..

Now even the UPS guy knows my love for this gooey goodness...

**What about the varnish?

I sprayed the Peeps with it, but it didn't make them hard.

It just stunk really bad..

After one night outside on your door, they will be hard and perfect!

For this week's challenge, Kathy made a wreath too.

Hers is classy, sweet,and fun!

How was your Fat Tuesday?

Our was filled with short naps, errands to the craft store,

and sneaking in some sewing time.. so nothing out of ordinary!

For this week's challenge I embraced my new favorite - free motion embroidery.

I embroidered an outline of a Mardi Gras mask

and went wild with stipple.

It is adorned with matching gemstones.

It looked very vanilla on the Kona cotton,

so I decided to free motion applique it to a yummy

piece of Michael Miller glitter fabric.

Kathy submitted a yummy project and a sweet toddler craft.

I may have to drive to her house today to try some cake :o)

And I love Sophie's sweet little puppet.

Kids love crafting and it is such a great way to

keep their minds & hands occupied for an hour.

Craft Challenge #11

In honor of Isabelle's birthday this week - let's celebrate!

Anything birthday related..

Banners, cakes, candles, gift wrap.. you name it!

If we can round up 5 entries this week,

the prize will be a set of 10 tissue pom poms from FiestaPomPom

I think these are fabulous for parties!

Results for WOW #8 - Details for #9

I'm so bummed that my photos are soo sub par this week,

but it's been a nut house here with kiddos sick again.

This was an amazing quick project and super cute!

I bought a cheapo small toddler t-shirt from Hobby Lobby.

Embroidered the "lucky charm" from Embroitique.

(If you have questions on how to embroider on a ready made item,

just holler and I will try to help!)

With the same green plaid that I used for the shamrock applique,

I cut a very long 2" strip and serged both edges.

I then ran the strip through my ruffler and

sewed it to the bottom of the shirt.

The top was looking awfully sad and commercial,

so I chopped off the arms and added more green plaid as a seam binding.

Super quick, super cute

for my little "lucky" charm!

Loved the entries this week!

Jen did a mixed media art piece inspired by

"Pennies from Heaven"

I would love a tutorial on how you are able to combine

these two art mediums!

Kathy worked on a paper crane garland for her

daughter's room.

I can't wait to see the finished project!

Such a great way to combine family history and art.

Kathleen made a lucky inspired inchie.

That looks like so much fun and it would be fabulous

to add to an ATC!

Results for WOW #5 - Details for #6

I loved that ya'll really tried something new this week!

I hope that you had fun and maybe found a new favorite craft.

Inspiration can come from so many new places.

Before Iwas a mother, I'd spend hours shopping and looking at fashion mags.

I loved the art museum and traveling to new places.

Incredible fodder for inspiration.

But just because I typically have a milk stain and have become a mommy taxi,

doesn't mean that my creativity has to be stifled.

This week I was inspired by the gazillion Valentine wreaths I've seen,

the coffee filter AND cupcake liners wreaths, and preschool.

Yup a preschooler could do my craft.

I'd like to think mine is a little more professional looking,

but why not try a smaller scale version with your kiddo!

I love that I'm a "Rodriguez" now.

I love my maiden name too.

I loved taking on my husband's name when we were married

because I saw it as a gift, not a removal of who I was before him.

I felt honored to be linked to my hubby.

So here is my Valentine wreath celebrating my marriage.

It is so easy peasy (and cheap, cheap!!)

I free hand drew and cut out a "R"

on some lightweight chipboard

(you could use cardboard, styrofoam..whatever you have in your stash)

And grabbed some crepe garland that has been lying around

since a birthday years ago.

I cut the crepe up into about 2" chunks, twisted it around the end of a pen,

dabbed it on a teeny tiny glue dot and pounced the "R".

It takes awhile..

Put on a movie and relax, you're going to be at the table for a bit.

My biggest tip is do the outline first and the fill as needed.

You don't need to put one on every square inch

because the crepe is so full it covers a large space.

So.. I kind of did a new craft, but kind of did one

that I had tried decades ago..

Hope you love it!

And talking about love.. I love our entries this week!

Kathy created a fabulous piece of Subway art

inspired her love for her daughter.

I have been wanting to try this for awhile now,

and I am so inspired by her.

I love the words she choose and the typography is perfect!

Kathleen rocked a new craft and didn't let the blizzard stop her!

I would love to have this box of bobbins by my sewing machine.

It is so fun and a great way to upcycle the box.

Jen made the sweetest Valentine dress

for her little girl.

A wonderful way to try out a new feature on a sewing machine

and make a treasured dress.

I love it and the picture!

Well folks, we're close..

Just enlist 1 more crafter and I can start the gift giving!

TRAVEL!

Who isn't effected by this awful weather,

wouldn't we all love to be somewhere else right about now?

anything related to being somewhere else..

Results for WOW #3 - Details for WOW #4

I hope ya'll were able to find some fun with 7 deadly sins.

Thanks to Urban Stitches, I was able to

hand embroider this beauty.

After stitching the picture all in black,

I then went back and "colored" in with fabric markers.

I had seen this technique done by Mary Engelbreit,

and I have been wanting to do it for months.

So much fun - a grown up's coloring book!

My sin could be interpreted in a number of ways.. wrath, envy, lust

It's all about the original temptation.

Love the thought and love the art.

This kind of nails who I am too..

I've always loved the country & the city.

Iron Craft #2

For Iron Craft #2,

our challenge was to create a draft dodger.

Ah, serendipity at its best!

The hubby has been asking for awhile now, for me to make one for our

eldest daughters' room.

Miss Isabelle likes to peek out of from

the bottom of her bedroom door to see

if there is any light on in the house. And if there is, it's

"I'M AWAKE MAMA, I'M AWAKE!"

Needless to say we have had a rolled up towel

in front of her door for months now.

I was very excited about doing the project,

but perplexed as to how Isabelle and I could compromise on design.

At almost 3, she has very strong ideas

.... on everything.

I wanted it to be something she would embrace and not have a tantrum over,

but I really did not want to make a cartoon draft dodger.

In the end I went with a rainbow candy patchwork design.

She LOVES all the colors and spends some part of the

day looming over it, yelling loudly every color she sees.

In fact I was in quite a bit of trouble with her for

borrowing the draft dodger for the photo session in a better lit room.

I love it and it took less than 30 minutes!

And I also love not hearing my sweet Angel's voice till about 7am..

Make it WOW in 2011

I hope everyone had an amazing holiday this season,

whatever holiday you celebrate!

For most of December I entered Michael's weekly craft contests.

The premise was each week they would announce 3 mystery items,

and you have to create something from it.

I didn't win - at all.

My ego was a little bruised (okay, a lot bruised),

but I had tons of fun!

I found it to be really creatively stimulating and I'm bummed it's over.

Soo..in an effort to keep the fun going and be more dedicated to my blog,

I'm making it WOW in 2011!

What is WOW you ask?

It's "Work One Wednesday!"

Each Wednesday I will announce mystery items or theme.

You & I will do it!

There will be prizes each week!

And a fabulous end of the year prize..

How do you join?

You have to follow my blog - you gotta keep up with the good stuff!

You don't have to do it every week, just when it sounds fun.
